The result of not wearing my knee pads on a rainy day and a really rocky trail. Landed straight on a rock. Any deeper, and it would’ve hit bone. Rode down the trail about a mile back to the road. Received a few stitches, it got infected, and now it’s finally closed but still hurts very much. Didn’t ride for a whole month, much less bend my knee. Wear your pads, kids!

Ain’t that the way it always goes? Glad you seem to be recovering well. Hopefully you get back on the bike soon and don’t have any lasting pain.
When people tell me pads don’t help you not getting injured, I always bring up the fact that lacerations and abrasions make up >50% of mtb accidents. Yes, wear your pads!
That’s exactly what my knee looked like when I went down wearing knee pads, except I never got stitches. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
Stuff happens when we’re prepared and stuff happens when we’re not. I’m on two years in a row breaking a bone in the month of June. Shit happens.
Pretty gross
Days I wear knee pads: no crash
Days I don’t wear knee pads: I crash
I have an almost identical cut on my knee. I WAS wearing knee pads. They were just a poor fit and slid down during the crash. Hope you heal up soon!
If it’s a legit black diamond, i wear the pads — proceduarilized so I can’t wiggle out of it
