After arriving in Linz completely soaked from relentless rain the previous day, I was hoping for a change in fortune. Instead, the morning began with grey skies, busy traffic, and industrial roads that were a far cry from the Austria I’d imagined.

Fortunately, things slowly began to change.

As I reached the Danube, the clouds finally started to break and the ride transformed into one of the most enjoyable sections of the entire trip. Along the way I stopped at the Mauthausen Memorial for a quiet moment of reflection before continuing through the beautiful riverside landscapes of Upper Austria.

With one goal firmly on my mind—a well-earned Radler—I counted down every kilometre to the famous Radlerhütte. Just as I sat down with an ice-cold drink, another storm began rolling in, turning the final kilometres into an unexpected race against the weather before finally arriving in Grein… just as the sunshine returned.

📍 Route:
Linz → Mauthausen Memorial → Grein

🚴 Distance:
62 km
