I visited the 43rd Leipzig Triathlon in Germany to see what it’s really like. From swimming to cycling and running, it was amazing to watch people complete all three sports in one race. Hope you enjoy the experience with me! 🇩🇪🏊🚴🏃

  1. Hi there!

Nice video, you are very enthusiatic and your pronounciation of "Kulkwitzer See" is on point. You arrived a bit late at the finish of the bike leg.

But it is not the overall finish, just the entrance to transition 2. And yes: You must stop and dismount before the line (I almost overshot) and push your bike in the transition zone (and leave your helmet on until the bike is back in the stands). Otherwise you get disqualified (there are a lot of rules to follow).

I was running towards you at the 479 seconds mark of your video (Greetings!) completing the 1st of 2 5km rounds.

We are not Olympic athletes, just normal people (most of us) competing in a Olympic distance triathlon (also called short distance).

It's 1,5km swimming, 40km at the bike and 10km running. These are the minimum requirements. There might be slight differences at different locations.

In Leipzig it's 1,59km swimming (for reasons unknown), 42km cycling (4 rounds of 10km plus the way in and out of the transition zone) and 10km running (2 rounds). At this year, there has been a construction site at the bike track, so they had to adapt it a bit. That resultet in the bike leg being even longer (ca. 45,5km). For a compensation the running was only 9,5km (according to my GPS).

See you next year? Learn to swim and take part in the „fitness triathlon“ (the one that started 3 pm, usually it is the day before, but also due to the construction site they had to move it to sunday). It is only 590m swim, 21km bike and 5km run.

P.S. Yes there is a scuba diving station and the swimming takes place at this part of the lake. This point is also the FKK section (all the naked people). It is followed up by a „mixed section“ (naked and dressed people) and the part for the people who rather like to be dressed.
