Devon to Tuscany: Part 9 — Aix-en-Provence to the Italian Border 🏍️🇮🇹
An extra early start today as Rich and Sue faced a big one — over 350km to cover, and hot conditions to boot! We rode the Honda GB350S through Nice and Monaco, but skipped the famous coast road this time, opting instead for the motorway through the hills, tunnel after tunnel, to avoid the traffic.
We crossed the French-Italian border near Genova and settled in for the night at the Poggio Hotel, right next to the border crossing. It feels like a real milestone — Italy at last!
Tomorrow we finally arrive in Tuscany, staying in the beautiful city of Lucca.
📍 Route: Aix-en-Provence → Nice → Monaco → Genova (Italian border)
🏨 Stay: Poggio Hotel
🏍️ Bike: Honda GB350S
Onwards into Italy — Tuscany is finally within reach!
👍 Like, subscribe, and join us tomorrow as we roll into Lucca.

What a fun series this is.
Enjoying these short clips so much nicer then those ones that last soooo much longer
We are here to live life and enjoy the experiences
Try coconut water very hood for rehydration
We were in Monaco and Lucca last week, on a med cruise, so hot 🤪 but the A/C on board was a lifesaver. The wet T shirt must be working wonders 😉
Looking forward to Lucca, a beautiful place and of course the birthplace of Giacomo Puccini 🎶🎶🎶
Keep ‘em coming !
For the more niche fans LOL.Enjoying following your journey. The GB seems far more capable 2 up with luggage than I expected tbh.Sounds great as well.
On the way back you could go up the Route Napoleon to Castellane (you can stay in the town or the campsites in the gorge have cabins, Huttopia is good) in the Verdon, then take the D952 down to the famous lake via an epic gorge to Moustiers St Marie which is rural Provence then head west on the Lavender road. Lots of nice villages.
This is a beautiful series, each one bite size, really lovely video footage.
Morning guysh what a ride, if you retrace your ride back but on the coast road which will be busy a bit of slow filtering will be required,
But the coast road is pretty spectacular, D559 on my old map Agay is a nice stop for coffee, or as I said before the old centre vill of Frejus and the colosseum, Monaco, go to say you have been there but 🥴 imho not worth the walk around, far prettier places, Nice, harbour walking towards promenade de anglaise is worthwhile, just before you get to Nice, you have Eze, and up the hill behind you have a fort who’s name escapes me with panoramic views to st jean-cap-Ferrat where most of Hollywood lives and smells gorgeous +cap d’Antibes.
But our favourite bit of is on the coast road from Frejus st Raphael st aygulf, ste-Maxime,saint Tropez port Grimaud, cavalaier -sur-mer
Inland you have les Arcs, Tourtour etc etc it’s all nice guys, inland from Frejus Roquebrune -sur -Argen go under the autoroute head to les Blavet and les Agates head into the hills to Bagnols – En – Foret you will ride around a rock formation with a view point at the top which is something els.
Carry on up the coast La Ciotat and Cassis, etc etc,
Don’t know when your gonna turn North but look on google earth find Castellane and the rout Napoleon, and the Gorges du Verdon the deepest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon, great road around it to,utterly stunning, ❤️ a must if you turn for home from Provence / Côte d’Azur, the rout Napoleon is a classic biking road it’s all brill 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 the last bit gorge du verdon etc I did for the third time in May with my mate Mike from Scotland he was gobsmacked 👍 ….. Pete 🇫🇷
Obviously don't know how far in Tuscany you are now or which parts you intend on going to, but I thought Lucca, Greve in Chanti (if you are going there look up Castello Vicchiomaggio as a place to stay) plus the SR222 is pure motorbike heaven, Volterra, Pienza, Cortona were absolutely stunning in my view. Well gel & you've made me want to do it all again.
Thank you.
Hi, I enjoyed your video. I also have an Adv 350. I live on a small Mediterranean island which is very different from Norway, I can say that the scooter is also very capable in the extremely hot weather.
A great scooter for all seasons.
Thanks for the video.
Loving this and thanks for not making it cheesy. 🏍️😀
N85. Route Napoleon. Gorge Verdon. Balcony road.. Sisteron for the citadel.
It's all good.
Ride safe 👍
Watching from Sweden. Great story telling. Impressive of that little machine with two up.
Do you know your weight and luggage combined ? Thx
I'm in between bikes at the moment so these little daily nuggets remind me of what i'm missing! Really impressed with the little Honda, seems remarkably capable despite it's modest size and power! Cheers.
You too are funny 🤣 really enjoy your short videos
