A major incident has been declared after a huge fire at an industrial site in Essex spread to a fertiliser store, causing a huge explosion.

This is what catastrophic failure looks like. An agency is 100% responsible for this. There is no such thing as “an accident” when it comes to explosive fertilisers.

Did the first cameraman say he saw something land on the roof? A drone?! This is mysterious. There is a huge shortage of fertiliser globlly at present because of Ukraine and the Gulf.
Ammonium nitrate is not technically an explosive on its own under normal conditions. Instead, it acts as a powerful oxidiser. This means that when it catches fire, it chemically generates its own oxygen, rapidly feeding the blaze and making it almost impossible to extinguish with standard methods. The exponential acceleration from fire eventually creates the catastrophic explosion due to the confined space. A slow motion gun powder of sorts.
Sometimes it's better to let the fire burn itself out. Clearing half burnt residues can be extremely difficult and hazardous.

Beirut in 2020 had 2,750 lbs of fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) that caught fire, and then exploded.
Fertiliser that home gardeners would buy is not as explosive as it has stabilisers added to it.
An explosion is simply the rapid combustion of a gas or other material.
"It looks like a movie", "It looks like a nuclear explosion".
