My grandfather gifted me these 2 bikes. I was wondering if i could convert one into a bikepacking bike. I'm a beginner and would start on small trips. Both the bikes are from the 70's maybe 80's and have no gears. Is it possible?
All tips are welcome.

I see gears on the second one.
Anything’s possible. I wouldn’t love riding either off road laden down with gear and don’t think many other people would either.
More suitable to on road touring, probably need some tlc but should be good.
Just for reference and its obviously personal but nothing impressive to me about a 5k bike and fancy gear.
A 20+ year old bike still rolling, used and loved (including its faults) thats cool.
The golden bike has potential. It could definitely be made more touring capable but you’ll have to use brackets even for the water bottle cages but it’s doable. Also you might be able to find a smaller inner sprocket for the chainset to make it more hill friendly when packed. Unfortunately this type of conversion usually opens a can of worms that can be difficult and costly to solve if you don’t have a ton of bike parts lying around and the ability to improvise in certain areas.
