Picked two of these Gravel King Slicks up from Fairlight’s outlet ebay for super cheap so probably can’t return them, it was a really good deal though.

My gut says it’s just cosmetic, the bits of black rubber you can see peel off easily if I rub a finger over it. The tyre holds air and when squeezing it, it doesn’t feel any weaker or thinner in this spot than others. Also this isn’t realistically a part of the tyre I’ll be riding on.

I figured it’s probably fine but thought I should get a second opinion, cheers!

edit: Seems the consensus is it’s safe, thanks everyone! Not going to chase them up on it because these tyres were £18 each and quite frankly they’re only gonna be on my bike til spring, then I’ll swap to something with some proper tread once it isn’t completely miserable outside!

  2. 97.8% sure that is just a cosmetic blemish. To verify, run your finger over it to see if you can detect any bulge. If not, have fun riding it.

  3. I wouldn’t ride it. I’d either return/exchange it or reach out to Panaracer for warranty.

    Its fine.

That tan part is the tire casing, and it runs the full circumference of the tire. The black part is the rubber tread that is bonded to the casing.

    This tire is fine.
