After owning the G-Line for a year and a half I have come to the conclusion that the bike probably isn’t for me.

I bought it primary for touring but find myself only really using it for commuting. After a few longer rides I was pretty dissatisfied with the gearing and so upgraded to Alfine 11 speed. I also swapped the brakes simply because I much prefer working with Shimano and finding spare parts is much easier. Unfortunately I never really enjoyed longer rides on it. It’s a fun bike that rides really well but anything longer than a few hours I started to miss having a full sized bike. And if I’m really honest with myself I simply don’t go on tours very often. I think I’ve done around 4 since I bought the bike…

I now use it mostly for commuting where I love that it can be folded and brought on the train, however its size and weight are pretty annoying, and all the upgrades are overkill for the 30-40 minutes of riding I do a day. I’ve had a lot of fun with the bike but it’s time for me to let it go.

I’m thinking I’m going to sell it and get myself a C line. Hopefully someone will get more joy out of it than I have.

  1. If you were in Saskatoon where we have bike thefts and bad pavement that bike would be perfect.

You should seriously consider a T. It can dance with road bikes on hills and if you have to carry it up stairs while folded the light weight is nice.

I am really surprised to read this since I just had the opposite feelings about the G and I only have the original 8 speed with 44T ring, though which was game changing. When you say longer rides, how long are they and how many miles?

I’m actually thinking of getting one to replace my c line for my 45 mins 13km commute that’s likely going up to admit 60 mins 20km next year
