Part 1 – Bikepacking Normandy (EuroVelo 4): Cherbourg to Sainte-Mère-Église
Our latest bikepacking adventure in France begins! In this first episode of the series, we travel from Portsmouth to Cherbourg by ferry with our bikes before starting our journey along the stunning Vélomaritime coastal cycle route (EuroVelo 4).
This stage takes us from the bustling port of Cherbourg through beautiful Normandy countryside and coastline to a beautiful campsite on the coast near the historic town of Sainte-Mère-Église, famous for its WWII history.
Over 4 days, we’ll be riding 140 miles through Normandy, camping each night and carrying everything we need. This trip also gave me the chance to use my new Naturehike Mongar ultralight tent, which I’ll be showing and sharing my first impressions of during the trip — a great option for lightweight bikepacking and cycle touring.
Expect stunning scenery, fun camping vibes, ferry travel tips with a bike, and the usual laughs, challenges, and mechanical mishaps that come with a bikepacking trip.

Hi please can you give me some advice, ive just got a new gravel bike. I fancy doing some bike packing . What do you use to charge your mob and camera. I am not a stranger to cycling mtb I've already cycled over Yorkshire way but would love to gravel bike and camp any advice would do thanks Trevor

Your first day from Cherbourg to Camping Le Cormoran was a mirror reflection of my last two days in September 2024. I had already cycled from Caen on my Brompton ARCC over a series of days; sometimes camping, sometimes staying in hotels. Camping Le Cormoran was a lovely campsite indeed. Next day, I kept close to the sea until near Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue where I too had a meal in Le Cabestan. I had moules frites washed down by a demi Affligem. I stayed in a local hotel there before cycling on to Cherbourg on my last day.
Great trip, went there in 2021 first trip post Covid. Might try to cycle it so appreciate all the info 👍
