Hi guys, I am planning a big European cycle this summer starting from the UK, getting the ferry over to Calais and then essentially heading East with the idea of getting to Istanbul! Any recommendations over the route I have planned would be appreciated = https://cycle.travel/map/journey/899052 .
I know I want to follow the Eurovelo 5 heading over the Alps roughly to Como, Italy, and then following the Eurovelo 8 down the Balkan coast.
After Albania I am less sure of best routes to get over to Istanbul…
If anyone has done anything similar I'd be keen to hear whatever advice you have

Great trip ahead of you! Here are a few thoughts of mine:
Dont skip Verona and Trieste, they’re amazing cities.
The part of your trip between Verona and Venezia is not the nicest in my opinion very flat and boring I would advice on either crossing through the Alps (if youre fit) or going east in southern Germany and cross the alps via alpe adria.
Although I haven’t ridden there yet I read a lot of people advice against going along the coast in Croatia because of crazy traffic. There are many inland routes that are said to be beautiful, the trans dinarica for example
