4600km on these tires, purchased new 5 months ago, all on loaded touring, primarily road, some gravel. Seeing cracks along both tires, but moreso on the front. Is this expected? I would’ve expected these to last a lot longer before seeing stuff like this. Is this a defect? (Referring more to the deeper cracks than the superficial one on the tread)

The tires themselves could be old stock. Check the actual manufacturing date on the tire and see.
What are the tire dimension, how much is your system weight and what pressures are you using?
I think this is a normal lifespan in my experiences. I’ve used a ton of Marathon Plus tires, mostly not loaded but I weigh about 270 lbs. Mine are usually pretty well spent by 4000km. These look like they’re the Marathon Plus Tours? I do have 1 set of those I’m using now but don’t have any experience with how long they last.
Could just be from hitting rocks/debris at an unlucky angle. It doesn’t look like the tires have worn out too fast. Some times shit happens and stuff breaks, that’s life.
These are mine at 4000km and btw last time they set them in a too small box and they where deformed. This company is not what it use to be
