43 years old (300lb, 6’3) and looking to get back into it casually (hit the park with my kid, teach him, ramp some corner boxes (cement).
I bought my kid a Kink Curb (20 inch wheels) with the idea that we could share it and I felt super cramped riding it. Cranks felt short. Knees felt like they were going to explode. Feel like I am leaning too far over the front of the bike.
Question is:
– would a 24 inch ruin the experience? Should I go with 22? (I feel super comfortable on a 29 inch mountain bike kind of pumping through the skate park). I do not feel comfortable on a 20 inch.
Pic from 1999 for attention.

If you want to do any amount of tricks then go with a 22″.
24″ feels like a BMX. I’ve got a sunday model C. I am 47, 6’0″ 180lbs for reference. You’re a big dude so I can’t say how it will feel for you but for me, 24 is way better than 20″ for general stuff. I’ve tried 29″ and it felt more like a mountain bike or cruiser than a BMX
Have you tried a modern 20-in? You may be comfortable on a 21-in top tube with 10-in bars
If you do end up getting something like a 22 or a 24 just make sure it’s built for what you’re going to do with it, a lot of them are built for just casual riding or wheelies so if you blast the hip with it you’re going to collapse both wheels and snap your pedals off lol
As other answers, actual riding a 22” is the way to go. 24” and larger while still having that bmx look and style aren’t as usable but still are fun to roll around on, pump tracks etc.
Kink curb is an extremely small bike for someone your size. You could look for a used bike with a 21-21.5” top tube and you could comfortably ride that. You could go with a 22-26” Bmx but some parks frown upon or outright ban anything with more then a 20” wheel. I’m 40, 6’1 200 lbs and I ride a cult hawk frame with 21.25 top tube. They also have a 21.5 and 21.8 option.
I’m 36yo, 6’3 265,
Just got a WTP audio 22.
Perfect size for everything
I went with a 24inch dirt jumper modified to meet my needs. I do more cruising with my kids than tricks and jumping at this point. Turns out all those injuries 20 years ago did catch up to me.
Check out the Fairdale Taj. I use it to cruise around with my kids. It feels like an adult BMX
Cool
Bike
24” have cruising geometry.
I’m 56, and 6 foot tall and ride a 22”.
The geometry is more for tricks like a 20 inch, but it was just hit with an opposite of a shrink ray a little bit.
