If you use Google Maps, it tells you where to exit and even which car is best.

Eeek! This video makes it very confusing! The bonjour RATP app and Navigo card are all you need for a 5-8 day trip. The card makes it ez to tap into turnstiles and travel freely. Bring a small stamp size picture to attach to the card’s adhesive. The app is incredible and will help you navigate Paris as well as transit – so very easily to the correct Metro exit/entrance based on the destination and origin you enter. It is SUPER friendly – like Google maps – but can navigate the metro stations underground as well! This video makes it sound scary/intimidating and confusing. It is not and I come from the Midwest and not Chicago.
Thanks for the helpful information. So, no tap to pay capability on the metro or bus? I was hoping you could just your phone or a credit card to tap and pay.

Planning a trip later this year so thank you for your generous response to us poor newbies. One aspect not obvious is the act of buying multiple tickets on the one phone. I will be buying a ticket for my wife on my phone rather than running a separate app on her phone as well. Possible? What happens then when approaching the terminal? Will it allow me to scan both tickets? One at a time? Do I pass the phone back through the terminal to my wife to scan? Some advice would be appreciated.
While the Parisian network itself is great, the ticketing is an absolute mess. They need to learn from London and just introduce contactless payment.

Citymapper is quite popular. It notably provides best positions to go on the trains, front middle or rear, depending on the final exit.

I saw from Threads that there are suspicious “ticket controller” scammers at the metro station. They are rude and not let you go until you pay them on the POS machine. The “receipt” printed has a QR code that is actually a Google calculator or sth. Can someone tell me if that is the new scam type? Is it really happening in Paris? I plan to go to Paris soon but this sounds really scary!!
In regards to metro apps, do you have experience with CityMapper? It seems to source all the same data from metros, busses, trams, and trains, but also works across Europe.
Bonjour. I just read through the comments. We will be in Paris next week, for 21 days. I am thinking of buying the month pass is the least hassle for us. I downloaded the two apps and tried to buy it here in California, so glad you told me I can't do it here. Will I be able to buy it on my phone at the Airport in Paris? If so, you mentioned needing a phone number. Will I need cel service to buy or use the month pass? I have data/wi-fi covered, but phone calls are .25 a min.
I notice you two are using physical cards. Is the month pass a digital tap card I can use with my iphone? If not, do I need to bring a photo for a physical card to buy at the airport station? If so, what size?

I am planning on landing, whipping out my iphone at the airport, and using the RT app to buy an electronic month pass, and use it with my phone, by "tapping" to get into Paris. Small tip, the City mapper app works incredibly well. As a Parisian i use it all the time, as it takes into account delays and construction works.
Had to watch the beginning about tickets four times before I could understand what you were talking about. Both of you talking over each other was confusing. Break it down. To travel all over Paris using the metro, WHICH PASS DO YOU BUY? Just spit it out!

The iPhone can connect to the RATP system. I just tap my phone to the card reader, and pay with my debit card.
I am in Paris today and I love the Metro so fast and easy. Thank you for the update on the Navi go easy card it was truly helpful. I did have a couple of times where it just didn’t open the gates and had to try multiple times. I also can say that there are some super nice Parisians here,my card wouldn’t work no matter what at a high peak time. One guy just used his pass to get me through to join my family. No questions just kindness to a visitor ❤

I use the RER within Paris to skip stations.
Used Google Maps and it worked fine for me. Gives you alternative routes in case reasonable, travel times, walking times, change of lines, Metro numbers and direction of the train you need to enter. Updated as well on any issue about disruptions etc. Maybe the official Parisian app is more accurate for disruptions on short notice.

This is helpful. As usual the Metro system in Paris is very challenging .
I remember needing to take just a single ride on a metro last year (I haven't since 2005), and was a bit angry that I had to buy the Navigo Easy card as lady at the "register" was adamant I can't buy a regular single ticket anymore. It just felt like such a huge waste. Good to know there are separate metro and bus passes as well. I live in Warsaw and while our metro is tiny, the busses, trams and metro all share ticket/pass. So does SKM which is a bit like RER, although you need to pay attention if your ticket/pass is just zone 1 which is within the city limits or a slightly pricier zone 1+2 which lets you travel further. There are also river ferries, but those are free. Tickets can be good old paper ones, which include up to 3 days long pass and there is a group one as well, you can use mobile app instead or get a personalized card which lets you code monthly pass onto it aside all the short ones as well.

When I was in Paris in 2018 for the Hemingway International Literary Conference, we rode both the RER and the Metro from CDG to our hotel in the 7th. We had zero problems. The hotel manager wrote every single place we had to exit along with the name of the next metro to take. I think we changed trains 4x. It was amazing. We exited 1.5 blocks from our hotel. One of the Metro workers actually assisted us with all of our luggage. The whole trip was great. We took a taxi back to CDG when we left because it was much faster at 5:00 am

That app is just like the Transit app in the USA (Green with a white swirl). Great app!
