Summer is coming to an end but not without a week in Shropshire….which just happens to have some of the best trails in England. Now this may be up for discussion, but it is certainly a venue well worth visiting.

Now my wife and I were only down here for 5 days. So I really wanted to maximize my time here and so I had planned three rides over three days and so that I wasn’t being a completely selfish so and so I hit the trails by 7 am and got back to base by before 12. Seemed fair ….I hoped. Whether my body would be in a great place after three consecutive days of pretty hard riding for an old fella would be interesting to find out too.

This first installment of the Shropshire trip was to The Long Mynd. This location really came to my attention from watching PinnedTV and seeing Jim and co riding some special looking trails. Coupled with MBR magazine announcing that the Minton Batch trail was their “Trail of the year” it seemed an obvious choice. I had found some routes on Komoot and with some editing made one my own.

All this planning however went out the window, in a good way, when at about 11pm the night before Jim Bodley (a great rider and sound bloke, whom I have known through Instagram and have previously ridden with at Win Hill) contacted me saying he’d be up for joining. Two is always a great idea especially as Jim knew the area much better than me. A massive thanks to Jim for showing me the off piste stuff and making the ride way more entertaining! In the end it was a route combining some off piste, ridge lines and old school classics. Hope you enjoy it!

  1. I do like riding around the longmynd! I got chased by one of those horses last time I was there! πŸ˜‚ Some pretty steep trails in the woods, not that the GoPro shows it! πŸ‘

  2. 2019 i did the long mynd, a very wet & miserable day but such a memorable one, the climbs were horrific though, we never did the off piste trails, we rode past them with the intention of coming back to them, by the end we were absolutely soaked & covered in mud, we decided to give them a miss, was meant to go back and check out the off piste but it never happened, i think i /we should, great video mate, loved it πŸ‘

  3. Been a few times to the Mynd and there's definitely a couple of trails that will take you out if you're not careful. Summer on minton batch is a bit sketchy at times. Enjoyed that buddy.
