This bike is very local to me. I’m looking for a gravel bike with a more upright geometry than my current older specialized dolce elite. The dolce is fast and fun, but I can’t seem to find the sweet spot between my undercarriage hurting and too much pressure on my wrists- it’s fine for city rides, but I’m ready for something else for longer or overnight rides or off-road group rides.

Help me out with price fairness? I don’t want to spend a ton on maintenance or changes but I’m happy to spend a little to make it just right. I’m heavy for a cyclist, so I find that I generally might spin out on downhills and like having generous gearing for uphills compared to some of my riding partners.

  1. Not having hydraulic brakes at $1400 is rough, especially for a heavier guy somewhere with hills.

Solid bike. Loved mine with the Sora Groupset. Ask for 1000 and install TRP Hy/rd.

Okay, so, I did get it. I didn’t pay $1400 for it. But the dude was cool, he had two little dudes running around who were delightful and he was a good dad, and we have friends and acquaintances in common- I don’t know enough about this sort of bike to have a big opinion on pricing and bikes do absolutely go for higher prices in our city than elsewhere, so I figured that in.

What I really like though, is I got a free bike fit out of it. He adjusted it a ton of times until we got it right, including switching out the seat post. We worked through what I didn’t like about my almost-right other bikes and I learned some stuff to boot. He was super cool about not being a jerk and telling me stuff I might already know, but wanted to be helpful.

A+ bike buying experience, might have made a new friend, and after the last tweak to the fit I felt like it was just an extension of my body- I pulled back into the driveway with a stupid grin on my face and knew I was getting it. Would recommend!

    New bike day!
