  1. I’ve had the same bag for a year and half now. It’s half full.youre good for awhile

I’ve got 5 bikes, each with 4 waxed chains I rotate through.

I’ve done…. more than 100 chain waxings on one bag. But I have the silca fancy croc pot.

  3. Don’t put the whole bag in the pot. The more wax the longer it takes to warm up

Depends on what your goals are. If you want max longevity of your drivetrain, a common recommendation is about 6,000 miles per bag, assuming 30 rewaxings every ~200 miles in dry road conditions.

If you rewax more often, you bring less dirt back into the wax and it’ll last longer. Conversely if you go longer between rewaxings, you bring more dirt into it.

If you’re not worried about maximizing chain life, it’ll last many thousands of miles as long as there’s wax in there to coat your chain. But as the wax gets dirtier, it doesn’t last as long on your chain.

I get about a year out of a bag but I ride mostly MTB and do a lot of miles, so mine is getting dirty by 30 rewaxings.

You use a few grams of wax per waxing, and there are 500g in that bag. My bag split along the side after a few uses and I got a wax pot (repurposed small InstaPot) and it is so much better than boiling the stupid bag.

I’ve used about 1 bag’s worth in 3 years riding ~6,000’ish miles a year, probably rewaxing far more often than I need to.

I’ve been using the same wax since october ‘24, probably 20-25’000km and it’s still going great and there’s more than enough left.

  7. Just melt the whole thing and you will see how many times it will coat your chain. But it for sure a lot of times…

  8. For SRAM chains, are you all replacing the power link like they say or reusing it?

I paid $10 for a crock pot which holds 1/2 the contents of the bag and have used it to wax three chains at least 30-40 x’s. Probably use current set up for the rest of the season. Still have 1/2 a bag which I’ll start using next season.

  10. My bag failed after a while. I would switch it out to something more durable eventually.

  11. I bought 3 bags about 4 years ago. I’m still on the first bag and I wax 4 bikes. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get to the second bag.

Just don’t contaminate it putting dirty chains in and it will last a very long time.
