2022 Specialized Diverge. I just recently started commuting 2-3 days a week and have the Top Peak rack & bag.
I posted a while back asking about the best pannier bags, but this bag does it well. Bag folds out from pockets that can fit some small items. I can stuff my computer & clothes & lunch in different places. It’s nowhere near as bad as I thought it’d be.
But, I have picked up riding more and more for leisure and want to get a bike computer with the radar/light thing that lets me know if there’s a bike or car behind me.
The rack has a small mount on the very back and I’m wondering if I’d need a different set up for commuting & just enjoying myself.
The best option would be to get a 2nd bike, but my garage doesn’t currently have any room because some idiot won’t clean it!
Also, would a computer have a decent light? I get 3-5 hours of light from my current lamp, but honestly don’t like the mount and on & off features.
Thanks ahead of time!

From what I’ve seen people often mount a headlight under their GPS rather than having them integrated. Something like this

I personally have a Wahoo Element Bolt V2 that I bought used for cheap and it works well enough. Most of the features of fancy models arent especially useful for commuting so dont buy something super fancy unless you want to.
I’m enjoying using the Cadence app with a nice phone mount. (Ram Mount).
I just use a simple Bontrager wired computer on my road bike computer. Works great. I had an older wireless computer years ago, and it had some RF interference issues, so I switched to wired. I don’t need any sort of fancy Garmin junk.
I also run Topeak racks on all 3 of my bikes, to which I can attach my Topeak trunk bag with panniers. Been using that setup for about 13 years now, commuting a couple days a week, 30 miles round trip.
For lights I run all Cygolite lights, the Metro front and Hotshot Pro (x2) rear lights. Pick your flavor, they all work great, and best of all the MOUNTS are great. I have mounts on all my bikes, and just switch the lights between them. Rigid mounts, so the angle never changes. I do wish the front light had a little more of a shaped beam pattern, but besides that they have been perfect.
