Super bummed, bike just showed up, first there was a big scape on the rear tube, not the end of the world, but this was stomach churning. I could see a little ripple in the ring but now I don’t know if the ring, pedals or whole thing is kaput.

Ok not so catchy but you get the drift, any ideas short of a return?

Have you unmounted the chain ring and put it on a flat surface? I mean, the obvious thing is to return to the dealership, but I don’t know your options and tool’s availability.

I’m not a bike expert, what is the thing going wrong here?

Why are people always so coy with details?
You ask for advice, but with no context.
It’s unlikely it left the factory like that. Did you buy it directly? From a dealer? Where? Was it shipped to you? Did you pick it up?
On a brand new bike, I would not accept this and would reach out to the seller immediately.
If it was a direct shipment from Brompton, they’ll probably just have you ship it back. They may ask for photos of the packaging, if there was visible damage to the packaging, I’d hope you photographed it, as you should with any expensive package showing wear.
If you bought it from a dealer, they may be able to replace the damaged parts for you so you don’t need to go through a whole return process. It’s better for them and gets you riding quicker. The damage could have occurred in transit to them, but more likely on location, cause they should have checked it out on receipt.

Issue with the bottom bracket?

Get a new chain ring. Simple replacement, cheap part.
And don’t get too attached to it staying flat. The thing is round, but your power input isn’t constant, it has two spikes per revolution. So the chain is pulling against the same two parts of chain ring with a lot more force than the others. Which is why it ends up pear shaped after a while anyway. Usually around the same time you have to replace it for teeth wear anyway.

Thats happening rly often with our bikes, but we change rings during PDI and calling brompton for new one. Just bad QC from brompton site and dealer.
Crank is in 99.99% ok
