The King John Way takes its name from the infamous 13th-century monarch who lost his treasure in the Lincolnshire marshes, was allegedly poisoned by a monk at Swineshead Abbey, and died a few days later at Newark Castle in 1216 — a site the route passes. Cyclists will travel through historic villages (including Tennyson’s birthplace at Somersby), market towns, and the stunning Lincolnshire countryside. The route is thanks to the vision of local YouTuber Roy Redman — creator of the popular channel @RideWithRoy (and Wendy).
I rode the King John Way Road Route at the end of May 2026 over 5 days of glorious sunshine. Albeit with some strong headwinds that made me thankful for the @Redshiftsports clip on aerobars that are part of the touring setup on my @WilierTriestina Cento 10NDR
