If you’ve never considered exploring France by bike and barge, this might just change your mind. @girolibero.cycling is so intentional about the destinations they choose for their stops and they make sure you have enough time to visit!!
Our journey began in Avignon, one of Provence’s most fascinating cities. For nearly 70 years in the 1300s, Avignon was home to the papacy, which is why the magnificent Palais des Papes is still the highlight of this city today.
Every July, the city transforms to world’s largest theatre festival during the world-famous Avignon Festival, when more than 1,500 theatre performances fill the streets, courtyards, and historic venues over three weeks.
And yes… that famous song, “Sur le Pont d’Avignon,” is about the city’s iconic (half) bridge!
This was the perfect place to begin our week with Girolibero before boarding the Caprice to cycle through vineyards, medieval villages, and some of the most beautiful scenery in Provence.
