Using the verified Strava segment of the Alpe d’Huez climb, I have normalised the most historic Tour de France performances to augment a unified Top 20 fastest ascents of the Alpe d’Huez.
Knowing the history of the sport, if Marco Pantani’s 1995 record is broken in 2026, it will be a huge discussion point as to how that is possible. Can nutrition, training and equipment bridge that dark 30 year gap? Can Tadej Pogacar do it?
RIP Marco Pantani 1970-2004

Pogačar can destroy this record easy
FTP Remco is known – 420w, let's assume that FTP Pogi and I think 440-460w, to beat Pontani's record he needs to drive at 405-410 watts for only 35 minutes, but why hasn't he beaten it yet?
Man thinks he can reach Mars…..
I've only listened for 2 minutes and I've heard enough and I know where this guy is going and I'm saying that's total b***** dude You're not very bright you don't realize that the the bikes are better The guys are better trained even if you just took the aerodynamics of the machinery now versus the days when Marco won there's over a minute right there then if you realize that their entire teams have that same gain that somehow gets compounded to lean that a little heavier on the scales for the modern races and then two back then guys didn't even make it on to a world team until they were anywhere between 20 and 24 for the most part nowadays these kids are racing when the by the time they're 10 they already know how to train against their power meters they know how to feed they know how to rest and know how to feed on the bike they've gained tremendous amount of buy candling skills they've developed an entirely brand new set of physiology that the old guys didn't develop until they were roughly around 30 or so. And so I didn't watch the rest of your video cuz I'm not interested I expected when I saw the clickbait that that's what this was going to be. And I just think you're full of s*** if you think that these guys are doping right now especially when you're only talking to two and a half minutes of gain. I feel like if you gave that two and a half minutes just of the aerodynamics to those old boys they could have still came out on top but now you've got guys that have the guys that have that already deeply formed physiology that the old timers didn't have until they're 30 You're just an idiot if you don't see the truth in that.
You know, unless you're going to retro-actively test the blood of all winners of this stage (even after years), you should include Lance Armstrong in your historical account of winners of this stage. Ah, but that would be politically un-polite.
You need to understand how cycling was raced then it was not efficient it was stop and start and by final climb no doms usually. Pantani has 3 out 4 fastest up alpe i think but they're again solo effort from the foot or very select bunch like riis, ullrich, virenque in 97 but again pantani went early solo no train no tempo no nutrition they carried muscle they could avoid today with nutrition and fueling i think tadej breaks it and it has f all to do with doping and if that's all you think of pantani you are a dope. That guy suffered more from the era than anyone else having always been the most gifted climber but having to race indurain a giant and lance who couldn't finish a tour pre metamorphosis. Cycling has nuance a hell of a lot deeper than drugs dude. Ask musician, or stock traders, or bartender how stupid they were to think drugs created any sustainable advantages. To cut corners for someone in need of that absolutely they work but with serious side effects that you can't mask… masking the test results are easier probably than masking the social side effects of using.
