Stage 9 of the 2026 Tour de France was one of the hardest days of the race so far, with riders facing an average temperature of 36.4°C on a brutal day across France.

In this report, we follow the peloton from the start to the finish as the heat, fatigue and first nine days of racing begin to take their toll.

Mathieu van der Poel took the stage victory after a hard-fought day, but the bigger story was the suffering across the peloton.

We hear from the riders about the extreme heat, the difficulty of this year’s Tour de France and what it feels like inside one of the hardest sporting events in the world.
