Help identifying a part. It was left over after a mechanic worked on a friend’s bike, is this something from a bicycle or not? I have six bikes that I constantly repair but I’ve never come across this.

Maybe a headset possibly a bottom bracket lock ring. Probably from an older bike.
That is your bottom bracket lock ring dawg. Super important you get that back on there
Ot locks in the bottom bracket on older bikes. I’d ve really fucking concerned if it came off unless the bottom bracket hadn’t been completely replaced.
Looks like the washer ring that sits between the hub and freehub (on my shimano one at least)
That’s a lockring, your friend needs that back on their bike ASAP
What’s the diameter of that hole?
Bottom bracket lock ring for older style bottom brackets that did not use sealed cartridge bearings. If your friend had their bb removed and replaced with a modern sealed cartridge one then y’all can toss that lock ring. If they still have the original bb still in the frame, that piece is super critical.
