A friend gave me this mid-‘90s Trek Jetta (I believe it’s a 1993–1995 model) in exchange for a bag of Bustelo coffee.
When I got it, the fork, saddle, tires, rear brake, and the entire drivetrain were completely toasted, so I decided to bring it back to life with parts I already had and a few upgrades.
The biggest change was swapping in a threadless fork from a 1995 Specialized Stumpjumper. Since I bought that bike in a 23” frame that was way too big for me, I salvaged the fork and headset for this build instead.
I also installed:
Schwalbe Billy Bonkers 26×2.25 tires
Gyes leather saddle
Shimano SLX 11–42T 11-speed cassette
Shimano SLX shifter
Shimano Deore 11-speed rear derailleur
Crankbrothers Eggbeater pedals
90 mm BMC gravel stem
Carbon riser bars
It rides so much better than I expected. It’s become one of those bikes that’s just fun to hop on and disappear for a couple of hours.
