I feel this hard right now. Last weekend I was sure I had everything I needed to finish my latest build, and the final touch – the front canti brake cable stop – had been forgotten. It’s not the kind of thing any LBS is going to have in stock (but I tried anyway) so order online I did. And I’m still waiting…
This is perfect justification for having multiple bikes. While I wait for that part, I’m still riding.

I don’t start building a bike until I have everything I need to finish it

What a cool edgy community Xbiking has become where we celebrate resourcefulness… err, I mean conspicuous consumerism. 🙄 If your impatience with your privilege somehow seems like a problem, please go literally touch grass.

It’s the worst parts of building. On the other hand, when that final part arrives and you get to finish the build… joy

lol. Jabee reflector, man.
While I have about several parts bins available, I’d pass the time (usually takes about 3-4 days after ordering from Lazada or Shopee) waiting by either doing the usual menial housekeeping jobs, watch something on the PC, play video games, or pick and hop on my other two bikes for a spin around town while the repair rack queen sits in the garage, waiting for spares.
If I need a very important component and can’t wait, I would raid the weekend flea market or a bike shop with bargain bin parts.

Just waiting on wheels and tires for my V1 Instigator, gonna be another 2 weeks. It’s so close to being done I hate this part haha

Milk crate of parts is the universal language of “I’m building something weird.” Looks like you’ve got the XTR derailleur and a cassette in there, plus what looks like a saddle box. The waiting is brutal, especially when one single bolt is the holdup and you’re staring at a frame that could be done in an afternoon if the mail cooperated.
I had a build where the last piece was a seatpost clamp and it took a wicked long three weeks because of some shipping snafu. Three weeks for a twelve dollar clamp. By the time it showed up I’d already ridden the bike twice with a clamp borrowed off another frame, which felt ridiculous but also proved the point that these builds are never really about the destination.
Drop bar MTB frame is gonna rip though. What’s the plan for tires once everything lands?

I certainly do. I live in a condo and don’t have room for a 3rd bike. So while waiting for a guide ring.. i can’t install the Narrow Wide. It’s been so very tempting to put the wide range cassette on even though the 44t on the triple would destroy my mech if I forget and use it. So I’m looking at all but the one part until then.

Hey, what’s that silver bike in the background? I need to see some more pictures of that one.

Especially right now! I foolishly started a fork, brake, and shifter swap a few weeks ago thinking parts would be here shortly… bike is disassembled and parts won’t be here till Monday!
I’ve got others I could ride, but I want to ride the project bike. Now! Like, this weekend!
It’s a struggle.
