Hi I’m looking to get back into biking after about a 10+ year break. And I need some help 🙂
Their primary use will be commuting to work (5min ride) and going on tarmac bike paths in the city, county side and by a river or sea. So no huge miles or long days on the saddle.
The choice is:
Merida Scultura endurance 400
Canyon Endurace CF 5
I’ve looked online and compared the frames and how they are laid out and the Merida is more relaxed and upright with better groupset; the Shimano 105 but with aluminum frame and slightly lower clearance for tires 35mm
The Canyon has the Shimano Cues, carbon frame, slightly more aggressive geometry and more clearance for tires 38mm.
The Merida does have an advantage in that i have a authorized dealer and service center where i live and the bikes comes fully assembled although the fact that i have to assemble the Canyon is not a negative for me.
Which one would you chose?

I’d take the Merida, every day and twice on Sundays.
I’d rather have the more comfortable geometry and better groupset.
While carbon frames are nice, there is nothing wrong with aluminium frames (some of my favorite bikes were aluminum). The slightly bigger tire clearance favours the Canyon but the difference is so small.
The biggest factor is if you have a local dealer. I had a Canyon Endurace CF7 for a few years and while it was a good bike, it was a pain in the butt because of a number of proprietary components, and having to deal with Canyon in Germany.
Lastly, the Merida just looks better and (at least around my home) is more unique. It seems like everyone has a Canyon because of their massive marketing but I rarely see a Merida.
Having not riden a bike the Shimano 105 or cues, is the 105 really that much better? Some say the cues is horrible while other say it’s great since it’s more robust 🤷♂️
Yeah the fact that I have a local dealer for Merida does have it advantages.
Yeah they are hardly any reviews of the Merida online so that’s why I’m asking for some advice. Currently I’m leaning more towards the Merida 🙂
Thank you for your input 👍
