Hey guys,
I woke up today to a flat tire—the inner tube had a complete split in it. I figured this is the perfect excuse to finally make the jump and convert my enduro bike to a tubeless setup (the tire has the tubeless ready logo).
I bought a Peaty's tubeless conversion kit, but I'm wondering on the tape process and haven't found a clear answer online yet.
Take a look at the picture of my rim bed. Is this black band that's already attached to the rim the actual tape needed for tubeless, or do I need to use the adhesive tape that came with my kit?
If I have to use the kit's tape, do I need to completely remove this existing black band first, or can I just apply the new tubeless tape right on top of it?
Appreciate any help or tips you guys can throw my way! Thanks!

Pull the existing rim strip off down to the bare aluminum and apply your tubeless tape directly to the rim.
Gorilla tape comes in handy to patch up nicks or areas where air is still getting through or around the tubeless tape.
Is it a tubeless ready rim? You might not have to do anything but add sealant. Otherwise, yes, pull the rim strip and tape.
Unless that strip says “tubless ready” on it, you need to rip it off and add legit tape.
Tubeless tape or not, they’re usually rubbish regardless. Strip it off and put new tape on 👌
If that hole shown in the only hole prepare for instructions.
You need a valve don’t go fancy they all work the same. Seat valve with best rubber seal if it comes with multiple. Put on tire both beads/wires. Remove valve stem if you have a compressor set to 100 psi. This is about to get wild. With the regular standard valve connector, blast that tire till you hear it ping. Fill with sealant through the valve replacement presta valve, fill, ride.
I’m not convinced that’s a tubeless rim, I don’t see much of a hook on it. I would suss that out before you pull the tape out.
Whats on your rim currently is just a standard rim strip to prevent the tube from getting punctured by the ends of the spokes. Not tubeless by any means.
Remove your strip and install tubeless tape. Make sure you choose a tape that’s 2-4mm wider than the internal width of your rim, and get it real tight so that it conforms to the shape.
