In addition to my other post (where I asked for help choosing between M & H stem), I can’t stop thinking about grip & bar end options. Just to remind you I’m hoping to get a 4 speed C Line (probably H) soon, so what better to do but massively overthink mods to a bike I don’t even possess yet?!
I realise it’s not as simple as replicating the setup of my hybrid, but I do really like what I have there: Specialized ergo grips & bolt-on ‘P2 overendz’ (no longer available it seems). I’ve had bar ends since having a Raleigh MTB in the 90s – starting with the metal ‘ski bend‘ type, before what I have now (photos attached), and can’t imagine not having them on a bike I own, I love the alternate riding option they give. Same goes for the ergo grips, can’t imagine going back to cylindrical ones now, ergos are so much more comfortable.
Other possible mods can wait, but as soon as I get the bike I know I‘ll want ergo grips and bar ends as a priority, I don’t care too much if the bar ends are integrated (like ergon GPs) or standalone.
I’d also consider a Joseph Kuosac mid-rise bar to lower the H bar height by around 3cm, if I feel I need to after trying the stock H bar height.
So the main things that interest me from you are:
What ergo grips do you like and why?
What bar ends do you like and why? Do you prefer these integrated or standalone?
How wide (front to back in riding position) is the wing on the Ergon GP grips? I think it looks quite chunky so wonder if it’s a bit overkill. Mine pictured are 5cm and I’m not sure I’d want them any deeper.
I know the Ergon GPs are numbered by the amount of fingers you can wrap round them. It’s a clever idea but I’d still like to see actual measurements of how long they are, both on the outer side and the useable finger / thumb space on the inside & end pad. My bar ends shown are about 13cm on the outer side, with 9.5cm of useable finger space on the inside, which for me is all 4 fingers wrapped round, and my thumb on the end pad. They are perfect. Looking at the Ergon GP sizes, I’m ruling out the GP2 which looks far too short & stubby, and the GP5 which just seem massive and would no doubt interfere with the fold. Is anyone able to measure the outside / inside length of the GP3 & GP4 bar end part specifically? I’d be very grateful if anyone can help. I know the clue is in the name of them, but I‘d still rather see the actual dimensions, to figure out if I do want a GP4 or if a GP3 would be just about enough, and less likely to bring fold issues.
Am I going to be quite restricted with the stock H bar (520mm I think) in terms of full length grips & bar ends? I guess so.
If I get the JK mid rise bar at 600mm (and presuming no rack / big wheels for now), how much realistically would I need to cut off each end to hopefully have slightly wider bars AND circa 15cm room each side for standard 130mm grips & bar ends (whether integrated or not)? I realise it’s all about trade-offs, but I really want bar ends and standard length ergo grips without having to cut them down if at all possible.
Thanks so much for your help.

I like my Ergon GP1 evo. On an electric c-line 12 speed.
I had to move the brake levers in a couple millimeters but I didn’t have to shorten/modify the grip length.
The comfort is great, lots of palm support, especially with hard breaking.
