  1. We didn’t even prepare for this ride at all, but she absolutely crushed it! Her legs were a bit sore by the end, but a massive McDonald’s meal fixed everything haha. So proud of her progress. Curious to know, at what age did your kids finish their first long-distance ride?

Congrats to her! I connected with my dad through cycling recently even though I’m already an adult. It’s great to go together, he shows me all the good routes he’s picked up over decades of cycling. I haven’t gone over 30k yet, but he’s been very supportive and helpful. It’s a great father-daughter activity.
Hope you guys have lots of fun riding together over the years.

I doubt I’d ridden more than 15km in one go at that age so kudos to her.

45 km on a city ride is no joke for a 14 year old, especially on what looks like a warm sunny day with traffic to deal with. Those twin towers in the background make a pretty sweet backdrop for a milestone photo too. Curious how you paced it though, did you stop a bunch to take in the river views, or just push through and save the sightseeing for after? When I was around her age my dad took me on a similar ride and I remember the last 10k being brutal, legs just screaming the whole way home. Bet that McDonald’s run tasted like the best meal ever after that kind of effort. She’s got a great baseline to build on now.

Great work, always fond memories of riding with my dad when I wanted to go further from home and navigate city riding. The patience he had with me in retrospect was pretty incredible. Always got a soft pretzel and Gatorade at the turn then headed back home!

  6. I helped my sister pick out her first bicycle 2 or 3 weeks ago and just walking her through that and showing her the route back to her home felt so good. I can only imagine how fun a 45km trip would be.

  7. That is really impressive! My kid is 10 and we are at 25km after two month or riding
