I have been trying like crazy to get this pedal off so that I can put a new chain ring on. I have tried the allen wrench with a pipe to get it loose but needed up bending my allen wrench. I have also tried spraying it with PB blaster to loosen it. Still no luck. Any suggestions? I might just have to take the crank off and replace it that way? But I’d like to be able to remove the pedal.

I have to ask the question, are you absolutely sure you’re turning it the right way? It’s very easy to get this wrong because you’re basically undoing a bolt from the opposite side.

Both pedals loosen towards the rear of the bike.

Give it a few taps with a hammer after you spray it with your preferred loosening agent.

Use a hex headed socket on a ratchet if you have one, can apply more torque than through a small Allen wrench.

You also might be able to apply more torque towards loosening it through the pedal axle. Some are slotted for an open ended wrench, this one doesn’t appear to be. You might be able to get a pair of curved mouth vice grips around the pedal axel and turn the hex head at the same time

Be sure in the future to grease the threads so you don’t have issues like this again

“Tip of the day: To install pedals, ***turn pedal wrench in same direction as the tires rotate*** when you ride. To remove, turn wrench the other way” – Stolen from another forum

  4. Just go to Harbor Freight and grab a hex socket set.

For these tight bolts I help it with a rubber mallet.

Once you get that pedal off, put a different petal back on that doesn’t have a useless bump right down the middle

I had this happen really bad once. I took the pedal apart and put a pipe wrench on the naked spindle of the pedal and walked it out that way. The pedal spindle was destroyed in the process.

    j/k (but seriously n+1)

Try going to an auto parts store for a hardened 6 or 8mm hex socket and then putting a breaker bar on the socket. It will take a lot more torque than simple bike hex wrenches

  8. Use a proper pedal wrench and turn it counter-clockwise on the drive side. Also, clean the threads and apply a thin layer of grease when you reinstall.
