  1. The E-bike rating has something to do with how much the tire deforms when accelerating. Electric motors have high torque, so they can make the wheel spin really fast from a dead start which some tires can’t stand up to. Using electric tires on a regular bike might give you a little more rolling resistance, but if you’re on Marathons you’re probably not worried about it. Get to riding!

  2. There’s certain standards that tires for e-bikes are supposed to have to handle the torque and speed and this tire just so happens to comply so it really doesn’t affect anything.

Hello fellow Kiwi… this is the new Marathon Plus Tour, slightly different tread pattern, and suitable for all bikes.

i had these on my Surly. The tires are actual beasts that held up on dirt, gravel, and various acacia thorns.

edit: they were 700c x45 version

full disclosure: I’m a Schwalbe fan boi.

I used that very same tire (except ISO 406) for over 3 years. Mostly fully loaded touring in my half way around the world bicycle tour. In that time I had ZERO flats. I would trust it with my life. BUT……it weighs 2 pounds, just the tire. I never really noticed it until I rode with other folks, and then it was a struggle to keep up. They are slow but virtually indestructible.

I was at a friend’s bike shop last week and replaced the Marathon Plus tires (still with lots of tread) with what they had in stock: Schwalbe Road Cruiser. It is one of Schwalbe’s lower end tires. It is half the weight of the Marathon Plus. But I have to admit it’s a little more fun to ride now, lively-ish even.

My original plan was to get the Marathon Green-Guard. The tire is a bit lighter since the center strip is 3mm thick instead of 5 mm. But I don’t think Schwalbe makes them anymore. Their line-up seems to change all the time. You just need to spend a little bit of time on the Schwalbe website. I’d recommend going for one of the slightly lighter models in the Schwalbe line up. Hope this helps!

Just put 11000 km on a set of these. Work more than fine on a regular bike

  7. It’s just a regular tire that happens to be tough enough to handle the torque of an e-bike.

E-bike tires are conductive, to prevent dangerous buildup of voltage while riding. Putting them on a normal bike is generally fine … except during storms, when they make you much more susceptible to lightning strikes.
