Looking to replace the old BB bearings and got myself a pair of same size (1/4") ball bearings but the ring/case is slightly bigger 0.3mm edge to edge on the outside.

Tried to put the new one on the spindle and gave it a spin to see how it fits, it is slightly looser, it can be noticed but not that much, balls still remain in contact with the cone.

How do I go about installing the new bearings? Install them with the new ring or install without the ring as there's many videos out there calling to install without a ring?

If installing without a ring, most probably will need an additional ball that I might take it from the old one (they look in good condition too).

If the balls themselves are the same size and same count it shouldn’t matter. As long as the cage isn’t getting crushed it will work.

It’s the first time I’ve seen a new retainer. Of course, you can use the bearing without a ring, but you can also transfer the new ball to the old ring. ( If the ring is not damaged)

The rings take up space. You need more loose bearings to make up for no ring.
