I've been slowly building this SE Draft Lite bike. Took everything apart and stripped the paint. Hit the frame and fork with a wire wheel.I was gonna paint the bike forest green but now I'm loving the bare metal look.
Wanted to know if I go with the polished steel look can I just apply clear coat over it? Will it still be protected from rust even without primer and paint?
Any suggestions and recommendations is appreciated. Ok….GO 👀

That’s sick. Been thinking of doing the same with an old Mercier. Following to see what’s up with the clear coat
You can clear coat it to protect it but you must do multiple coats and preferably protect it with wax after clear coat has hardened. Also good two component automotive clear coat is better for rust protection than cheap hobby quality stuff.
Looks good. I had a Bianchi Pista similar to this.
Do what makes you happy but I think bikes like this need a splash of color that pops. Like pink Sugino crank bolt dust caps or some funky colored Chris King headset.
Just something small to break it all up.
Also, just ride it and keep a close eye on it. Maybe spray areas you don’t want to water to sit on (or difficult to reach).
