I saw this cargo bike in eurobikes and it comes with a rear camera that shows live footage of whats happening behind you on big screen (like car) and there were alott of people on their booth. Is it something you think is useful for riding bikes? Because as far as I know riding bikes was never about this. You could just turn your shoulders and see behind you.
But at the same time I think things like this might be useful if you are not a expert rider or riding with kids. And because it isn't something I personally need and it might be useful for others. What do you guys think about it?

No thanks.
So you want to distract yourself to catch distracted drivers in the act?
I have a rear view mirror that costs a fraction of this, doesn’t need power to run, and does exactly the same.
This doesn’t seem to offer any advantage over a mirror while adding more points of failure. Not like we need a backup camera on a bike either.
It is too much hassle for too little value (the screen part).
I will now have to worry about it being charged, if it is waterproof, take it with me whenever I stopped, if it is bright enough, maybe it gets too hot in the sun…
Get the camera and a handlebar rear mirror if those make sense to you.
Seems like a cope for nervous riders who might need to make better choices about where their riding. If you’re this worried about what’s behind you you’re gonna end up hitting something in front of you. A small handlebar mirror would be a better choice imo.
Two main issues – the power and the sun. A camera + display needs lots of energy and there’s no screen to outshine the sunny day ambient light.
On top of everything else the other commenters said, you would have to remove it every time you park in public. Not worth the hassle or the price. I say this while I fiddle with my mirrors every time I go on a ride
Yeah definitely too much. That gives someone another reason to steal your bike. Plus you’d be more distracted looking down at the camera than just doing a quick look behind you.
It’d be much more useful if it faced the front. A bike with an integrated dashcam sounds awesome in case the worst happens.
Too much sind more to steal and forget
Much like rear view mirrors for cycling, i wouldn’t have faith that someone with one of these was competent and/or experienced at cycling.
I stopped using my phone as my computer because it was too distracting. Had a really close call because I was in the music app changing playlists and not looking at the road. Just get a handlebar mirror.
I have a rear camera and love it I can see 180 degrees, to me it’s better than mirrors. I ditched my mirrors
What happens when you leave your bike?
The version I tried does hook up to the existing onboard main battery so you don’t have to charge this system separately. I definitely like it. Unobstructed and some versions have Ai capabilities to warn you with an audible notification to let you know to look. I don’t think the stats are that necessary, but the rear view camera option is nice. The system is over most people’s budget though as it’s likely half the cost of their bike or their bike entirely.
Lots of negativity around this product. No wonder they didn’t sell well. Too bad though. I liked my experience on one.
Not worth it imo. Use a rear view mirror
