I went to Whistler in early June. I was going down fanatic(?) and was at my max skill level.
I am NOT paying attention to surrounding. Just what is directly in front of my wheel. Ended up making a pretty awesome video.
i only saw the 2nd bear. I never saw the first until I stop to avoid the 2nd bear.
i learned to be more aware of my surroundings after this to say the least.
I 10/10 recommend Whistler to any and everyone. Best vacation of my life and I’ve had a decently privileged life.
edit*** to clarify. And you can barely see it. I did NOT see the first (closer bear) I did see the 2nd bear. The 2nd bear was walking directly across my trail. I stopped to avoid him. Then I saw the first bear.
I am at my max skill level on a trail I do not know on A bike I’m on day 2 of. I figured taking off max speed on the trail was more dangerous than the two bears.
I walked my bike back up the mountain 50 yards or so and watched until they went their own way.

I would’ve just waved and kept riding, and not stop haha
Whistler biking is one of my favorite things in the world.
You seem to have made the only dangerous decision bar running into them in your bike. I think every other option available… like continuing to ride in any direction…. would have been better. Lol.
why would you stop lol
Stopping right in front of the bears. Feels a bit like deer stopping in the middle of the road when a car is approaching.
Why’d you stop lol. Oh yeah, and keep your head up and look down the trail, you’ll be a better mountain biker for it, and avoid bears better as well.
Now stop harassing the wildlife and go about your day.
I just had a “lock up the brakes, stop as fast as you can” moment yesterday when a black bear was sitting in the middle of a wooded trail. I skidded to a halt about 20 feet from her, shouted a bit (I certainly didn’t scream) and then a bear cub scurried up a tree behind her. I turned around quickly and rode away. The best part: the trail’s name is Bear Tree, in Ottawa.
…cuz they’re so cute and looked hungry.
whistler cows
I bearly saw them!
Just like others have pointed out, you took the worst option available to you 😂🍻
Dude has survival instincts of someone who identifies as prey. Blast past them and get on with your life
