  1. ok, having cycled myself, It appears to me that current cyclists have very little regard for other road users, they are thoughtless and arrogant. that is what the anger is about.

  2. It's a bad argument. Car taxes don't come anywhere near to the cost of running the road network. We all pay for the roads with general taxation. Vehicle taxes are purly punitive, punishing high emissions. Cyclists don't cause any emissions so no tax.

  3. What car drivers need to remember is that cyclists have a right to be in the roads. Car drivers only have a licence, which is legally inferior. Saying that, I pay my £20 a year road tax for my car and ride my bikes on the road.

  4. Also, road tax does NOT finance roads alone, a much bigger proportion of the cost is taken out of general taxation, because even non drivers need roads or supermarkets wouldn’t have anything in them etc etc…

Plus, weight of vehicles exponentially causes damage to roads, so every cyclist not driving instead makes the roads last a lot longer than they would otherwise.

  5. What's not to understand ? The conflict is because the police don't enforce the laws on careless and dangerous cycling. Look at the number of prosecutions, compared to the same offences for vehicles.
