To start our Romanian food tour in Cluj-Napoca, we headed off to try one of the best street foods in Romania, palaneţi, a stuffed bread packed with flavour and delicious ingredients. This popular Romanian food is a must try! Afterwards, we went for another Romanian street food, plăcintă, full of creamy garlic and strong Romanian cheese.

With it being our first time in Romania, we couldn’t miss mici, a juicy skinless sausage that is packed with taste and flavour. One of the most popular Romanian foods to try. After such a big meal, we went for a little snack to taste the Romanian street food covrigi. Covrigi and covridog are very popular Romanian street foods eaten on the go.

Our last stop on our Romanian food tour in Cluj Napoca, Transylvania was to a very local spot for some delicious traditional Transylvanian food. We tasted the local Cluj dish of varză à la cluj, as well as balmoș and lapte de pasăre. For our first time in Romania, this was an epic feast of some of the best and most popular food in Romania.

  2. while Cluj is indeed the most developed city in the area, it's not actually the "capital" of Transylvania. Historically, that would be Alba Iulia – that city has literally been the most important city for thousands of years, right after the Roman conquest to the end of the Medieval Era. If you want to look at it from a cultural standpoint, I would regard Sibiu as the most important city in Transylvania. Go visit Brukenthal, the University or participate in one of their many medieval events, you will understand what I mean. If you want modern historical importance, Timisoara is the most notable city. The Revolution started there. And they make some beer I really like, hehe. Cluj Napoca is just the recently created hot spot for electronic music festivals and IT industry. I'm not from any of those places, just spewing some facts for you. And yes, I obviously visited all of them, so I don't think I'm wrong.

  3. Mici fără pâine și bere la urma….. INCOMPLET…. Ciorba de fasole dreasa cu smântână 😊😅😂…asta arată ce RAVAGII poate face consumismul prost înțeles!

  4. You need to trabvel with someone from around to teach you how it's eat. We usually combine the foods. The salad is for ciorba for example. You take one bread bite, spoon of ciorba then one fork of salad. It applies to almost everything. Sarmale same, one piece of mamaliga then bite of sarmale then one bite of pepper. This is how people eat.

  5. It's not like I want to be a Grammer Nazi, but food can only be "românească și nu română" in Romania, eating mici with butter is as big a crime as in France pouring water into wine, or in Germany putting ice into beer. For the rest of it, enjoy!

  6. The white wine you drank at the Valahia restaurant is called Babanul, a very select wine, made from noble grapes! Topul de pe lume!😊

  7. I see lots of travelers going to Cluj. Why? They have bad restaurants and it's a small and booring city. You are better off going other places… The hate i'm gonna get from my fellow romanians :)))

  8. Improper said ''romanian food''. All of the romanian cuisine has influences throughout history of invasions of the Ottoman Empire and the Austro-Hungarian Empire untill today with italian, greek, and oriental influences. Even chinese. The sarmale, ciorba, and mici are basically turkish and serbian on the mici side. The mamaliga si not a dish. It's a form of bread. Grilled meats can't be considered dishes cause they're just that. Grilled meats. Nothing complex in their making.

  9. First things first, im so happy to see you visiting Romania and starting off in my city of Cluj!

Also, huge thanks for guiding me a bit through my Sofia culinary adventure. I loved my lunch at the Izbata Taverna and it was all thanks to you guys that i knew about them!

Now, at 4:20 that pie was cooked on a stone, not in a pan. It's in the name of the place, Placinte pe lespede, pies on flat stone.
