Yesterday when I was riding I noticed that the handlebars were a bit loose and it was creaking a lot when riding over small bumps. I tightened the stem bolts (one on the top and two by turning to full lock) to spec today which fixed the play but the creaking is still present. As I was finishing my ride something came loose in the fork area.
I removed the fork cover and and found this. It is threaded to screw into something (visible, on the right) but also has a thread for something to screw into it (not visible, on the left)

This is the pin screwed into the cockpit where the fork cover clamps to.
They clamp onto this and the cover is secured from the bottom with a screw.
