Special shout out to myself for making a point of packing a snack beer but not gloves that would keep my hands warm enough to be able to operate the pull tab. Or my brake levers for that matter, but that’s not the important part.
The ride was warm at first while I was dealing with the road climb, but then at the top of that it started to get chilly between being 1,000 feet higher, on level ground, and then entering an old rail tunnel that wasn’t exactly heated. (Couldn’t get a good glamor shot of the bike in there though) By the time I was back outdoors, the hands were numb and I was shoving them into my armpits to try and get enough feeling back to keep riding. At that point I accepted that I failed to prepare and took the short way back down. Near the bottom of the bail out fire road I got an ouchie on the front tire that didn’t seem to be sealing itself, but while fumbling with the DART tool trying to find the puncture through the wet snow on the tire it finally stopped hissing.
Lesson learned the hard way with packing extra layers now that freezing weather is on the menu.
