Reached out to the community here for a recommendation on what to ride to work in that are not jeans or lycra. Hiking pants were the top recommendation and holy smokes what a difference! From the moment I got on the bike I was like 'I never knew! Dear God I never knew!" The comfort, the flexibility, the ability to dry after a little Pacific Northwest damp. I brought jeans to work to change into and just left them in my bag all day because I didn't want to change out of my hiking pants. I'll never go back! Never! On the way home the sky opened up and I got drenched but it wasn't uncomfortable in my new favorite pants. I mean, I was soaked and cold, but I just kept thinking"this would be miserable in jeans." Anyway, super huge thank you to the community.

For anyone on the fence there are hiking pants on sale on Amazon for like $30 right now. Totally worth it.

Edit: a few people are asking for the kind I bought. Here's the link to the first brand: https://a.co/d/08eCe0Im

  3. I thought I was clever when I decided to commute with hiking pants, turns out everyone else had the same idea. They just made for movement so they’re so much more comfortable.

I remember your post, OP. Definitely the way to go. I (F) have the women’s pants from Kuhl and they are my absolute go-tos. I have a few different colors. Your commute will be even more enjoyable from now on. Sometimes, a good piece of technical clothing really does make a difference. I also bought mine on sale, at REI, a few years ago.
