On a long ride last weekend I shifted down to my small front cog and then when I tried to shift up the lever required my full body weight to move the derailleur and it seemed like the indexing was off. After removing the cable the lever can shift through the high/low and trim positions with no problem. I have since tried reconfiguring the derailleur from scratch and have had no dice fixing this problem.

My main source of confusion is with the high limit screw initial position during setup, this changes the angle of the piece the cable screws into and therefore its overall torque over the linkage and the official Shimano setup instructions don’t exactly make it clear how to initially position this screw.

If anyone has seen this issue before and has any suggestions I would appreciate it. I built this bike from the frame up and thought I understood it but clearly not 😂.
