I've created a poll on your thoughts on warranties over on our Patreon. Check it out. Link to Patreon on the video description. 🙂 Jimmi xx
Was a great video the lock , we had one of those u locks in Colombia , and was just the best lock , also had one of those in Berlin and they cut the whole bike stand and took another bike hahaha , but you could see they try to cut the lock
As an American, tipping is optional, we get pissed when there’s an automatic tip included..at that point just pay the servers more.
You do not need to tip for the coffee. Coffee workers are not paid tip wages. They make at least minimum wage which is $15/hour. Wait staff and bartenders make tip wages which is $2.13/hour under the assumption that they will earn tips.
As an American… many of us know what Bollards are since that's what we call it here as well.
That bald hair cut is kinda in the Mullet family except its party at the back, January 6th at the front.
My partner and I laughed out loud when you said "if you're not in the UK, you probably don't have [hill climbs]." We're in the process of trying to talk one another into riding the George Street Bike Challenge in Worcester, Massachusetts in July. 500ft at an average gradient of 18%. It's so bad, but also so good!
As a man with a dreaded skullet, can confirm: is Hairo
You guys missed the festive 500
Jimmy, if the manufacturers made their bikes work with "all external" motors, they would have to get their hands on every motor out there to test the mounting a torque it applies to specific parts of the frame. It is just not viable with all the cheap stuff coming from China and wherever to test them all. It would also force them to make the frames stiffer and stronger in certain areas to accommodate the weight and torque, making every frame heavier for a specific aftermarket product, that most people will never have.
They also can't control how people install the aftermarket motors, so if it is installed incorrectly and damages the frame, now the bike manufacturer is on the hook for a warranty that should not happen.
My solution, just pedal your bike like a bike. If you want a motor, then buy a motorbike.
Love the hat jimmy, its a nice one!
On tipping at fast food or walkup places it's because the point-of-sale software always has a tip line for food products. So you're fine to skip it because the staff is on a regular hourly wage (although it is still probably stupidly low). On including the service charge in the bill that's basically what the rest of the world does they just don't break it out as a line item. We do it that way because of the software, again (and there are income tax/accounting reasons).
When I was in my 30's, I was a teacher with summers off. I would do 100 several times a month in the summer. And where I live, it was a hilly hundred. While yeah, it was work, it was totally doable. 100 miles isn't that big of a deal, if you've trained for it.
1:47 DO NOT FEEL OBLIGATED TO TIP HERE. Seriously.
"Tipping culture" has gotten so out of control here in the US that it's essentially turned into a new fee. Even fast food places are doing it now, places where they don't even bring your food to you anymore, you're forced to go pick it up yourself. Free refills are long gone, "service" is long gone, among so many other things. Who are you tipping? Nobody knows. It's just more money for the company. A lot of places aren't even giving you the option anymore, they're simply including it in the tab and you're forced to pay it regardless. That's a charge. A fee. Not a tip. It's all greed. Everyone wants you to pay more and more and more while getting less and less in return.
It used to be tips were something extra for an employee who put forth a little extra. Gratuity. In the past handful of years the entire concept has been turned on its head and everyone thinks they're obligated to it now. They aren't. Do. Not. Tip. By. Default.
Some companies have become rather infamous due to how they deal with warranties. Some (Dell as an example) will sneakily sign people up for a subscription warranty without their knowledge, refuse to help them when the time comes, and keep pulling out that subscription money, often without the person ever knowing they're paying it.
And Dyson… Ugh. That company made good stuff once upon a time, but that was decades ago. They're cheap crap now, but they still charge high prices for it.
26:40 It's worth noting that generative AI, like what was used for that image, and deep learning neural network AI, are vastly different things. It's like comparing Excel to Skyrim, saying they're the same because they're both software, but in reality aren't comparable at all.
Technically there's nothing wrong with either one of them, like any other tool, it's up to how the human uses it. And in this case, whatever human at REI posted that… Well. They tried? 😂
Two things: England called it soccer before they changed it to football. Second, the saying is, "A rising tide lifts all boats."
I definitely want to try a century, eventually. Just a couple days ago I did my first ever 50 mile, my previous longest ride being 40 miles. And I did those where I live, in the Rocky Mountains, half the ride coming back up the mountains to the town I live in. I hate climbing. Hate hate hate hate it. I think if I go down to the flat land I could do a century.
Each week it would be nice to have a close up of Emily's nails.
They probably do the swimming first versus last so people don’t die from drowning🤷♂️
V2X 350 BIKE is already on the market.
For an ebike conversion kit to cost that much, I'd rather put that money towards an actual ebike. I wouldn't need much more.
Urgh, Sony warranties. I had a Sony 6-disc CD changer (yes, remember those) installed in my car back in the day.. it was literally a couple of weeks out of warranty when it stopped working. Sony wouldn’t help me out and it cost me nearly as much as the changer to repair it. Several weeks later, guess what, it stopped working again. This time Sony were simply not interested so I had to scrap it and go without. I’ve never bought anything from Sony since.
Jimmi really hates cycling.
400k, Congrats lads !!!
Why is this show acting like used (second hand) bikes aren’t prevalent? No warranty for those bikes, so let’s see a review without worrying about some warranty?
I can't tell if I can hear your fan because my own fan is so loud.
What about vehicle to x from head units. It woud be a reason to switch to a new one. Because there honestly is no reason to do so it it's not broken.
Demand your warranty no matter the price. You would be livid if people stole pocket change, but ignore broken items that cost 100s
I don't know guys, I think I've ridden maybe 20+ 100km+ rides in the last couple of years, ranging from 100 kilometers to 300. Overnighters as well. I think I only have one experience that I didn't look back on with fondness, and that ride I just had numerous issues with tubeless tires, and ended up putting in an inner tube on the side of the highway in the pouring rain in the middle of the night. Had a flat after 20 kilometers, and rode the last 20 pumping the tire every three kilometers. Even that ride I now think of in a positive way, because I didn't once lose my temper or get frustrated, I just dealt with the issues and kept on riding.
What I love about long rides is that I am in full control. I choose the roads, the destination, the tempo and company I keep (riding solo or with friends). In this world of polycrisis, riding a bike is a perfect way to bring balance into my life. And it's good for me health wise. Except for all the crappy food you end up eating during the ride 🙂
Hill climbs are pretty popular in Japan, too, although you're far less likely to see people riding dedicated hill climb bikes than in the UK
Hair-o 😝
If I'm in America and counter-service asks for tips, I will ask if it makes up their actual wage, or if its a bonus, or if its shared via tronc. Only if its their wages would I tip in that case. If they say tronc and I think they deserve a tip, they get it in cash directly to the hand. This last principle applies wherever you go. If you want to tip in the UK, do it in cash, give it directly to the server.
Ahh… the Cap. It brings me back to old days in the 90s, when I was watching „Ulle“ riding against Armstrong in the heat of Ventoux .. herrlich 👌 ! Kindest regards from Bavaria. Love your show!
53:55 problem with a triathlon … eh running?? 😂 Probably unpopular but I want a swimming cycling duathlon. Swimming is so great! Every time I swim or cycle I feel amazing, every time I run I feel like I got beat up with a stick
Nobody gives a stuff what the Yanks think but, if you’re insisting calling it "football" you are going to lose all your real Aussie mates too!😂
Spookily this was published on the day I was riding, yet another 100-miles. But, this time in a heat wave in the UK (but, only, in the Amber Heat Warning area) 🥵
And for God version of Bike Packing. Come and give the King John Way a bash – 300 miles around Lincolnshire with the maximum distance between towns with hotels is 32 miles. And it’s on the railway from Newcastle.
So they create all this tech for what is in fact, a drivers issue?
I love 100/200 mile cycle rides, just started doing a few miles extra every time I went out, and was really pleased when I did my first 100 miles, then when in. Hospital after an RTA, I was reading an article in a cycling magazine about someone doing 200 miles in a day, and that inspired me to increase to longer distances. Also love wild camping.
Hairo 😅
Yes, the solution is the Netherlands. Moved here 4 years ago and ride my bike (almost) every day. The feeling of getting home safe is unbeatable. Jimmi, come to for a ride, it's flat but beautiful.
I'd argue that breaking forces on the frame from disc braking far exceed the forces from a 200 to 500 watt E-assist, thus warranty voiding is industry BS.
PS a free theft deterrent is to remove the front wheel (also seat post if QR) & take it with you, making all the other bike more appealing targets.
