After a few months saving up and going down the rabbit hole of folding bikes, I had decided to purchase a G Line. I was a bit tired of my 16”, so I admitted to myself that I am not as young as I used to be and it was fine looking for something a bit more comfortable.
The G Line is expensive for me, though! It is a non-trivial expense, but I decided to buy another Brompton instead of a r/BrompNOTs because I thought: Bromptons are reliable, they are thoroughly tested, and I know they are built like tanks. Then, the funniest thing happened.
I am not very mechanics-savvy, or know a lot about bikes. Do you think this is a reason for concern, or just one unlucky episode?
Thank you ❤️

You took the time to write this post, but chose not to give any details here? I took the bait and clicked your link. From many comments over on that bike forum, it is being suggested that your bike isn’t a real Brompton. Go take it to a Brompton Junction or authorized dealer and see what they say.
I think this is a 1 in a lot chance, and personally I believe it’s more an over heat on a weld, I would say Brompton are examing it now if there is a chance it’s a critical safety problem, then they have to set up a recall, Id just pay attention to any unusual creaks or if it feels weird on steering.
I’d first consider what makes the standard Brompton uncomfortable for you because there’s mods for Bromptons for everything from changing the handlebar to a sweepback version (£40) all the way to adding a Rohloff hub that increases comfort.
Actually my view is that there has been no follow up post from the OP., so possibly no issue. Plus no mention on the Brompton service page. Again just my opinion and observation. Lovely bike
I’ve been riding my GLine for more than a year now. No problems so far except for the endless trial and error that I did to upgrade and personalize my bike. So don’t be afraid. There will always be a chance that you get something faulty in whatever you buy, but that would be extremely rare.
The situation is not pretty but Brompton should handle this.
They have 7 year warranty on their frames so should be fine. I hope there are dealers in your country.
