6 months of training finally comes down to this day and what a day it was! Dragon Ride Devil is 300km with over 4500m of elevation. Widely regarded as one of the toughest sportives in the UK. Unfortunately it didn’t go the way we’d planned but a strong performance never the less.

Next year will be different…

  1. I've done the Dragon ride. I think it's better than the Fred because the roads are better surfaced.
Were you looking at moving avg speed to workout the cutoff instead of real AVG speed?
My takeaway as well was in order to get a good time would need to miss out some of the feed stops and eat on the bike, cus we were queuing a lot for food and toilets

  2. Well done Max, legend!! And 25kms/hr in such a route with such an elevation profile, wow, epic result!! Well done, especially for all the hard training youโ€™ve put in all these months ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿค› (Have to say that the choice of song, crossing the line at the end with an Erdinger in between, cracked me up ๐Ÿ˜… ๐ŸŽบ๐ŸŽบ)

  3. Nice vid Max, riding in Wales is no joke, thought youโ€™d captured it great. Well done on the ride you did, but get it you will consider it unfinished business. On a big event the feed stations can be a big factor,

  4. Nice vid mate.. I live near and cycle those roads regularly ๐Ÿ‘.. (live in Builth Wells)
Iโ€™ve signed up for next year already, so if you want a training partner for the Welsh roads, give me a shout.

How long exactly were you spending at the feed stations!!!??? ๐Ÿ˜‚

  5. RIP to the X5. My X4 almost went the same way this week, started to separate at the bottom near the power/recording LED. Iโ€™m pretty convinced insta360 out in front mounts and their cameras are not made for UK roads!
Thatโ€™s one hell of a journey mate, well in ๐Ÿ‘

  6. I honestly found the dragon gran Fondo worse than the Fred Whitton this year.

The long grinding climbs just truly take your sole away, you don't get the same endorphine rush of getting up the mega steep climbs of the Fred – truly a grating. Both great days out though, highly recommend.

  7. No offense, but getting cut off because you were fucking around at the aid stations is a complete rookie mistake. Get in and get out, why make a long day even longer? Makes no sense. Gutted for you but if I were you I'd be pissed. You trained for the Dragon route you should have fought harder to get it done.

  8. Great achievement, still a big distance. Sounds like youll be back next year, but less potato stops ๐Ÿ˜‚ hopefully get a ride sometime with you!

  9. Great effort, lads! Those descents looked incredible, think Iโ€™ll be signing up next year ๐Ÿ‘. Are you doing Ride247 on the 28th?

  10. Great video Max. Massive effort! Good luck for the Tour de Cotswolds – I was going to do that but it clashes with the Rapha Manchester to London ride next weekend (350km ๐Ÿ˜ฎ)

  11. Great video on the event I am still annoyed of how it went down missing the cut off. I will be back next year just hoping for good weather again.

  12. could we get an uipdate on the X5. i have taken mine off myy bike now because yours is the 4th ive seen that has broken of the official mount. either the mount breaking or in your case worse with it pulling its arse end out

  13. Did this year's Gran Fondo, rocked up and once the car was parked went to take the bike out and remembered I had left all my energy mixes on the kitchen counter of the place I was staying at. Went about attempting to consume similar carbs per hour using the provided sachets didn't work out plus the fact I was only able to get proper electrolytes in at one feed stop didn't help. Started Black Mountain and legs gave out, continuous cramping would stop me from riding and reduced me to walking up the climb. Took a moment at a car park just before the summit to take in the view and assess my situation, luckily a lovely woman had a set of sodium tablets, took one and that got me to the final feed station with no cramping, however was a hell of a mind game the last 60k for sure. You're only as good as your fuelling strategy and I came unprepared unfortunately. Was lovely though. I don't think I killed myself enough apparently because this Friday just passed I signed myself up for an overnight 300k self-supported Audax. Will definitely be making sure to come prepared though ๐Ÿ˜‚

  14. What a ride, and the scenery was absolutely incredible. I might need to come over and do this.

Btw you are above average for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Another video worthy of the hype points ๐ŸŽ‰ well done mate, shame about getting caught by the cut off but it is what it is and for sure go back next year to smash it for good.
I am also at Tour of Cotswolds so maybe see you guys there!

  16. Thatโ€™s unlucky about the cut off time mate, but a monumental effort regardless so well done! It looks like it was a fantastic day anyway, those roads really are stunning. I did the Devil ride in the pissing rain last year but watching this has made me want to go back in 2027 and hopefully experience it on a nice sunny day – maybe see you there!
