I've had this 1986 Rossi for almost 10 years. It originally came with full Campagnolo Victory groupset which was great, but I never really enjoyed downtube shifting, so I recently decided to do a neo retro build of the bike using Campagnolo Super Record 11-speed.

The challenge was that this frame has aero downtube shifters, where the shifter bosses are mounted on top of the downtube (rather than the sides) and the shift cables are internally routed via holes on the top of the downtube. This meant that traditional cable stops don't work as they're designed to route cables externally parallel to the downtube.

I ended up designing my own cable stop solution which routes the cables into the downtube from the top and 3D printed it using carbon fiber filled plastic. I may eventually get them CNC machined out of aluminum, polished, and anodized, but for now, it is working nicely.

I finished this build only a few days ago and here are some pics from yesterday's first ride.

  1. 20 years ago people were lamenting on what to do with the frames that had aero DT shifters when It came to modernizing them, or even finding parts to make a workaround. This is clever. That said I feel like the routing should go around the head tube so it doesn’t rub, then maybe cross in the frame.
