  1. Probably because the assembly is made from plastic. If it was metal (on metal) there would have been more damage to both parts. But surely it must have sounded different? A good clean is a good idea.

    It’s likely you rode without realising it wasn’t on the jockey wheel. Chains will roll on plastic pretty well and Bromptons aren’t exactly known for their sharp shifting, easy fix all the same.

    It still provides tension, the wheel is just there to reduce friction, and provide a guide.

    Clean it. Degrease it but not the chain. You will struggle to shift otherwise.

    Had the same yesterday but shifting to gear 1 didn’t work anymore.

    you should have heard the different sound for sure. OMG so much crap on this; you’ve got to clean this up from time to some. Also true that the design if far to be perfect, they could use taller walls to prevent this to happen. But clean the bike
