Broke the compression cap on my WTP Crysis. Head snapped clean off while riding. They’re SaltPlus “Ultra” cranks. Pretty bummed about it, I’ve had it less than a year and it hasn’t taken that much of a beating. I also have a Cult I rotate in with this and it’s been solid. Still love WTP and this bike I was just a little surprised is all. Lesson learned to do a “once over” every now and then and grease bolts lol.

Might have been over tightened but I’m not super surprised, they’re pretty entry level cranks. Funny I’ve never seen 8spline cranks without a pinch bolt.

  2. Ah, well as annoying as it is, yeah lh crank bolts need regular checks as they’re the most likely to unscrew or shear, so honestly that could happen to any brand that’s is a classic 3pc style crank. Get a new axle and bolt and you’re good to go (assuming you can’t remove or drill out the sheared bolt)

Same thing happen to me about 6 months of having my bike. They would warranty the cranks. Ended up getting a nice 200 buck set at my bike shop and had installed with a nice warranty

I just fixed a fit prk that I got cheap cause it had the same problem. 10 sec with an extractor and 1 new spindle bolt later, it was good to go. If you can get the broken screw out, this is like a $3 fix. If not, BMX guru had V2 transit cranks on sale for like $25-30 a couple weeks ago

You may want to go to the hardware store and match the threads to bolts that are class 10.9 or 12.9 hardness. They would probably be cheaper and stronger than the original bolt that failed.
