I had to get myself SOMETHING for being such a great dad this year.

First carbon frame, first 1x drivetrain, and first time trying tubeless. Unfortunately, torrential rain this morning turned all the fun stuff into very-not-fun mud, so I had to do the initial shakedown ride entirely on pavement. But it’s definitely comfortable, almost plush. It glides over the crappy city streets that would normally rattle my teeth. Not going to break any land speed records with it, but it goes faster than it feels, and it seems like it’ll lend itself well to riding for long stretches of time*. The simplicity of the 1x is great, but it’s going to take a bit to get used to the gear spacing. Probably more climbing-range gears than I need, and not as much room to shift up on the downhill, but maybe I can swap to a larger chainring if that ends up really being an issue. Anyway, seems to be a solidly-made comfortable cruiser, and I can’t wait to get it out in some dirt once things dry out.

*except I’m absolutely going to change the WTB saddle out for my old Brooks C19. My ass needs pampering.

  1. Regarding the saddle I’m really doubting the online serious cyclist refrain of actually skinny hard racing saddles are the most comfortable. Gotta go with what feels right. Happy Father’s Day.
