The problem:
When I'm shifting up from small to big chainring, I get 2 results. 1st is it shifts flawlessly. I just press the lever and it shifts like it should. And then 1 minute later (if I've shifted down and need to shift up again) when I press the lever, the derailleur cage moves the chain but can't get it up so the chain will be scraping against the chainring. Sometimes it'll manage to shift after 5 seconds, sometimes it won't. And this happens even if I haven't shifted in the back, so everything else is the same as with the flawless shifting.

My thought process:
The only thing I could think of is that the shifter cable gets caught around the small ziptie holding the hose in the middle. When it's shifting okay the cable is normal, but when it's not shifting the cable is getting lodged somewhere and the tension is changing. (or the other way around).

I've tried playing around with the limit screws and with the barrel adjusted, the problem still persists – shifting properly one minute and literally the next minute struggling.

The parts:
I built this bike from frame up and I've been freehanding it. The shifters and derailleurs are Shimano R7000 hydraulic, the crankset is AliExpress brand Goldix (which says is a 12sp chainring). I have 2 sizes chainsets from this brand and before changing to this chainset the other worked okay.

Im not an expert but i think some FDs just do that in some gear ranges? I could be wrong but i spent hours trying to tune an fd just for it to sometimes miss anyway

    What the.

Wouldn’t the cable rub eventually cause catastrophic failure?

  3. The bare cables running along the down tube are definitely not supposed to be twisted around stuff and rubbing

Your shifter sables shouldn’t touch anything and shouldn’t cross!

I would not have the cables cross over. It might look a little weird on the front end with the brakes crossing over the head tube and the shifters not but you won’t have any complications. In your current set up the cables will cut into the brake housing or cable guides over time.

  6. This has to be rage bait. Get some flush cuts for the love of all things holy.

  7. You’ve crossed the cables on the down tube, they should go straight and never cross.
