And given lidl is dojng angle grinders for about £35, maybe someone won’t even bother to defeat the combination.

I have the same. It´s not meant as a protection against bike thefts but as a protection against drunk people. Combination lock does not matter either because no one is going to spend time trying every possible combination when it’s so easy to cut the lock.

Better than when i locked mine in London – but missed the triangle. Thief unfolded it and road off

It’s not clever and why on earth is there still an extended warranty sticker on it.

UK based, I’ve seen a Brompton leant against a shop window with the owner inside; some people need to learn the hard way!

Very risky. Certain to go

Are they assuming it’s safe as they have the battery?

What kind of bs situation have we got ourselves into that people are being trodden on simply for having some faith in our society. Lock the bike up, it prevents the opportunistic thief, but damn it people we need to look out for each other!

If the owner is the person in the bench that seems pretty normal…

Can I reserve judgement 😀 after all you might be 7’6″ and built like the proverbial while, carrying a chainsaw, wearing a t-shirt saying see that Brompton Bike, that’s mine, I dare you! Printed on the front

Short stop it’s fine. More than 10 minutes and no.

Context matters.
I was recently in Qatar and you could skip the lock and the bike would be fine. People weren’t locking house and car doors either.
Where I am in Canada, if we pretended that was an expensive lock and it was a slow day and no one with an angle grinder noticed your bike….
You’d come back to a bike without wheels, seat, handlebars etc. it’d just be a frame locked to a pole.
My mountain bike still has angle grinder scars from its last “liberation”. I bought it back from an ad.
Maybe the OP’s context is they’re sitting on one of those benches with a coffee. That’s about the only context I’d use that lock on (snatch and grab).

Depends on your region. If local thieves are aware of Bramptons value then really stupid. If small mountain town in the middle of nowhere then okay.

If it’s anything like Dublin it will last 5 minutes.
I wouldn’t use that chain lock in my house on the cookie jar let alone outside with something valuable.
Charity (to the crooked thief), especially with that combo lock
Maybe not stupid but certainly ignorant.
That sort of combination lock is utter dog poo.
